Witherspoon, John

John Witherspoon, now retired from private practice, practiced patent law in Washington, D.C., and is Professor Emeritus at George Mason University where he directed the Intellectual Property Program.

Mr. Witherspoon joined the George Mason faculty as an adjunct in 1992. Mr. Witherspoon previously served as an examiner-in-chief and member, Board of Appeals, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and clerked for the Honorable Giles S. Rich, U.S. Court of Customs and Patent Appeals (now the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit).

He earned his B.S. and M.Ed. from the University of Illinois and a J.D. from Georgetown University.
