Williams, Joan C.

Professor Joan C. Williams is a Distinguished Professor of Law, UC Hastings Foundation Chair, and the Founding Director of the Center for WorkLife Law at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Professor Williams teaches courses on Property, Feminist Legal Theory and Current Issues on WorkLife Law.

She is the author or co-author of over 90 academic articles and book chapters, along with eight books, most recently What Works for Women at Work: Four Patterns Every Woman Should Know (NYU Press, 2014) with her daughter, Rachel Dempsey.

She earned her B.A. from Yale University, a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and a Master's Degree in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

She is a co-author of the think and code treatise Family Responsibilities Discrimination.
