John Isbister, a Partner in the law firm of Tydings & Rosenberg, concentrates in two primary areas: defending corporations against products liability claims and representing plaintiffs in commercial litigation, especially class actions in the financial and technology sectors. Mr. Isbister leads the products liability, toxic tort, and environmental litigation practice at Tydings & Rosenberg.

Mr. Isbister has served in a number of leadership positions in the Section of Litigation of the American Bar Association, including serving as co-chair of the Products Liability Committee, Division Director, and member of the Council. In 2009, he was elected the first Publications and Content Officer of the Section of Litigation. He is also the founder and program chair of the American Bar Association’s National Institute on Class Actions, an annual event for leaders in the class action field. He presented at the 14th annual Institute meeting in 2010.

Mr. Isbister is a former president of the Federal Bar Association’s Maryland chapter. In 2004, he was elected to membership in the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel.Outside his professional practice, he has been an active volunteer and leader in community affairs. Mr. Isbister has served on the boards of the Howard County Police Foundation, Leadership Howard County, Johns Hopkins Medicine, Howard County General Hospital and the United Way. In 2013, he was elected chair of the Board of Trustees of the Horizon Foundation, which promotes and enhances the health and wellness of the Howard County community. He is also a member of the Board of Visitors of the University of Maryland School of Law.

Mr. Isbister received his B.S. from the University of Maryland and J.D. from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.
