Gary G. Gerlach founded New West Newspapers, Inc., and serves as its President and Principal Owner. Mr. Gerlach has a professional background as a publisher, journalist, and lawyer with over 35 years of experience in the media. Mr. Gerlach served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Partnership Press, Inc., which he co-founded with two partners, and Publisher of the Ames Daily Tribune in Ames, Iowa.

Mr. Gerlach had a 12-year career at the Des Moines Register and Tribune Company from 1974-85, serving on the Board of Directors and as Executive Vice President and General Counsel. He served as President and Publisher of The Des Moines Register newspaper from 1982-85.

Early in his career, Mr. Gerlach worked as an editor and journalist at the Miami Herald, the New York Times, and at Dow Jones & Co., with the Wall Street Journal's national newspaper, National Observer. Mr. Gerlach's legal background includes experiences as a lawyer in Washington, D.C., at Arnold & Porter. While at Arnold & Porter, Mr. Gerlach served as private counsel to Baseball Commissioner Bowie Kuhn and Major League Baseball.

Mr. Gerlach earned a B.A. from the University of Iowa, an M.S. from the Pulitzer School of Journalism at Columbia University and an M.P.A. and J.D. from Harvard University.
